Imperial County Sheriff’s Office confirms multiple inmates overdosed on fentanyl

Deputies discovered fentanyl was causing inmates to fall sick and overdose

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Sheriff's Office said that they discovered fentanyl was causing multiple inmates in the Imperial County Jail to overdose.

Nine inmates were rushed to the hospital after they overdosed in their jail cells on Wednesday, June 7. One inmate died on Thursday, June 8.

During the weekend, another inmate was rushed to the hospital after he showed signs of being under the influence.

The Imperial County Sheriff's Office found that fentanyl played a huge role in the overdoses after they conducted an inspection with border patrol and a K-9 unit.
