American Veterans Service Organization continues to help while they recover from burned building
The American Veterans Service Organization, formerly known as AMVETS, is still trying to recover from the fire that destroyed their building.
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Despite the building being destroyed, the organization is still holding their weekly Tuesday meeting with Veterans.
These meetings help the veterans with paperwork including claims and medical work.
In the last 15 years, they say they have helped around 55,000 veterans and their families.
Wayne Dreger, a local Veteran, shares how the organization helped them.
"I know that they helped me get some disability…we got other facilities in Yuma, but this one here in particular really does a good job," said Dreger.
June Condon, the manager, shares where they are in the process of trying to reopen.
"We lost all of our printers. All of our copy machines. All of our pens and pencils...anything anybody wants to make a donation that would be great, but we also need help trying to get stuff out of the building," said Condon.
The organization says that while they hope to be reopen sometime next week, a more realistic date is two months at the latest.
