The City of Yuma hosts second annual Career Fair
The city hosted the fair for those seeking career opportunities within the city
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The City of Yuma held its annual Career Fair Wednesday morning at the Yuma Civic Center.
Multiple departments within the city set up booths to speak and network with with citizens to see which jobs may suit them the best.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Yuma County had an unemployment rate of just under 12% in December of 2024.
Meanwhile, in 2023 it was at 13%.
Yuma local John Gutierrez shares why he attended the event.
"To get involved, and to come out here and see what departments are hiring, and what opportunities might be available out there has been really cool, so that's why I came out today," said Gutierrez.
The city explains how the event helps alert people of open positions.
"To get the information out to people because a lot of times, people don't realize the various types of positions that we have throughout the city. They feel like it's only a very limited amount and we really have quite a bit of variety due to the several departments that we have," said Leticia Little, the Human Resources Analyst and Recruitment Supervisor for the city.
Gutierrez explains why he prefers these in person events rather than simply applying online.
"A lot of the job-sourcing websites that are kind of difficult to navigate, and you don't get a lot of feedback. Here, you can actually talk to a real person face to face communication, so even if there's not an opportunity available right then, you at least know how to apply for a position," said Gutierrez.
