Boys and Girls Club offers children a place of their own to explore during summer
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Funds from community partners and the city council made a way for the children of Yuma to have a club of their own during the long summer days.
With almost 200 kids currently enrolled in summer activities, kids of all ages are ready to discover and engage in Yuma's Boys and Girls Club summer camps.
For Vianney Molina making friends and being creative musically is her favorite part of camp, “Playing piano and watch my friends play video games sometimes I get to join them if I want.”
Campers will take advantage of opportunities with arts and crafts, and computer skills in the STEM lab and compete amongst each other with video games and on the basketball court.
Rowena Regalado, Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Yuma said of the campers, “I think they just get excited every single time they rotate from activity to activity.”
The club is meant to be a safe haven for every child that comes through their doors.
Regalado said, “Having everyone help us, especially our community partners was the foundation of how our club is right now."
Even though Yuma is hot, the kids enjoy going out to explore the city.
Molina said, “The field trips, going to the theaters watching movies. I love it.”
The camp still has open enrollment and runs until the last week of July.
