West Main fire burns more than 1,000 acres north of Yuma

YUMA COUNTY, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - An update on the West Main fire north of Yuma.

According to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the fire has scorched more than 1,000 acres and has spread into California.

The fire is now 85 percent contained and some pockets of heat remain on the interior.

S-24 has reopened but Betty’s Kitchen Road is still closed.

"Today, we're looking at a really good situation. Firefighters have made some excellent progress to the point where the complexity has decreased and we've been able to reduce the management level from type three organization which is a moderate complexity to a lower complexity type four," explained Dolores Garcia, Bureau of Land Management.

BLM said since there was no natural cause of the fire and they are looking to see if the fire was caused by a person.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
