RCBH College of Health Careers offers Licensed Practical Nurse program

A pathway into the medical field is now available locally

SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The Regional Center for Border Health (RCBH) College of Health Careers offers a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program.

LPNs serve as an essential part of the medical industry, one that has a steady demand for skilled healthcare workers.

"There is a large need for nursing homes, hospitals and we know that the population, the elderly population continues to increase just for our state 36 percent increase in senior population in Arizona. So we know that the demand is there," stated RCBH President & CEO Amanda Aguirre.

The program is nine months long and its mission is to prepare future students for the healthcare demands of Arizona.

The inaugural class which just started two weeks ago has 16 students enrolled.

Those who are interested in future enrollment can take that leap.

According to Lorena Delgadillo, Campus Administrator at RCBH, explained exactly how interested individuals can take their first step.

“You would have to call the College of Health Careers. You must have a high school diploma, G.E.D and must pass the entrance exam which is the HESI-PN exam. Once they done that, then we can enroll them into the program," explained Delagadillo.

Students who graduate receive their licenses through the Arizona State Board of Nursing.

Delgadillo said this program can serve as a pipeline for higher aspirations.

"To become an R.N., this is a great way to start and then transition into the university or community college to get their associate's as a registered nurse," stated Delgadillo.

According to the website salary.com, the starting average salary for an LPN in Yuma is $43,000 per year.
