Sinema and colleagues visit Yuma border, held roundtable
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema led a bipartisan delegation of U.S. Senators to the Yuma Sector. This occurred on Tuesday, January 10.
In a press release, the visit is for the Senators to see the border security and humanitarian crisis facing Arizona's border communities.
Furthermore, the Senators' joining Sinema were the following:
- Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.)
- John Cornyn (R-Texas)
- Thom Tillis (R-N.C.)
- Chris Murphy (D-Conn.)
- James Lankford (R-Okla.)
- Chris Coons (D-Del.)
“I’m grateful to bring a bipartisan group of my colleagues to Yuma to see firsthand the security and humanitarian crisis facing border communities. Our tour helped increase understanding of the complex challenges at our border as we work to identify responsible and realistic solutions to secure the border and fix our broken immigration system,” said Sinema.
Visiting border states
Earlier this week, Sinema led her colleagues on a delegation in El Paso, Texas to see what the Southwest border looked like.
Soon after arriving in Yuma, the Senators met with the Arizona National Guard; previously, the Arizona National Guard took on missions related to the increased migrations.
Following the meeting, the Senators met with the U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) Yuma Sector and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to see how the changes in migration have impacted them.
The Senators then concluded their tour with seeing the Yuma Sector Soft-Sided Processing Facility and hosting a roundtable; local Arizona leaders and the Regional Center for Border Health (RCBH) also attended.
