New Year’s resolutions in full effect in the Desert Southwest

With the new year comes new goals - 13 On Your Side's Vanessa Gongora talked with locals about what they want to change

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - While shopping and eating at the mall, many people had one thing on their mind, how to start their new year.

One Yuma resident, Roger Bennett says he wants to break a habit and put down the sweets.

"Desserts, cheesecake, apple pie, brownies, donuts in the morning," describes Bennett.

One young lady passing by Yuma to visit family, Brooklyn Munce says she wants to make sure she stays healthy by exercising and will also work on letting things go.

"I want to focus on lettings things go that are out of my control," explains Munce. "So things like the future and worrying about trying to figure things out right now and just letting go of all of that and letting things happen as they happen."

Munce says in order to make that happen, she'll take it day by day and focus on one thing at a time that can make her goals come to fruition.

A different goal for one Yuma man, Clemente Gomez is getting a job.

"My degree is in media arts and I got it this year and I've been looking at jobs in any media industry and that's what I'm trying to do right now," says Gomez.

If you're looking for places to go on New Year's Eve, you can make a stop at Red Moon Ale House in Downtown Yuma.

Red Moon's bartender Alonso Felix invites everyone to come and join in on the fun.

"We're having a New Year's bash on New Year's Eve. We're having a DJ. We're going to have some live music here in our stage area," mentions Felix. "You can have a seat anywhere, you can have a good time anywhere."

Felix says doors open at 9 p.m. and there is no cover charge.

As for my new year's resolution, I want to get back to meal prepping and take care of myself mentally and physically, so hold me to that.
