Local non-profits prepare for Arizona Gives Day
Yuma non-profit organizations say they'll take all the help they can get - 13 On Your Side's Arlette Yousif reports
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA/KECY) - Tuesday, April 5 is the day to donate to your favorite organization. Arizona Gives Day is an opportunity to help our local non-profits.
One local organization says this fundraiser is a huge help.
"What we really do across the board is serve some of the community’s most vulnerable population. People with significant disabilities, individuals with severe mental illness, the housing needs with some of the low-income individuals and that within the community," says Achieve Human Services President and CEO Carol Carr.
Achieve is joined by other local non-profit organizations including the Special Olympics.
"It’s for every student, all abilities, all different abilities and so we partner up our general education students with our special needs population," explains Special Olympics Arizona River Area Director Lisa Ball.
Ball says it’s something that has built relationships within the community.
Whether there is a Veteran in need, someone working towards earning a higher income, or working through physical or mental challenges, Achieve also aims to prepare its clients for community engagement.
"We work with them to build their esteem, give them skills and trades that they can go out and be productive citizens, giving back to the community," says Carr.
Another way you can contribute to local non-profits is by volunteering your time.
"Trying to get as many volunteers as possible out. Our athletes are amazing and if you’ve volunteered with them before, you’ll always come back," explains Ball.
If you are interested in contributing to any of the organizations registered with Arizona Gives, you can donate on their website.
