Free water sites and cooling centers in Yuma County

News 11 weather anchor Melissa Zaremba takes us to where locals can get free water and a place to cool off

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY-TV) - Warmer days are on the way, so it’s important to take precautions when dealing with the heat.

As temperatures begin to climb we are getting closer to the hottest days of the year.

“The sun’s hot, the sun gets very hot,” said Store Coordinator for Crossroads Mission Thrift store Steven Garcia.

It’s important to stay hydrated and out of the sun.

Places including Crossroads Mission and Crossroads Mission Thrift Store are local cooling centers to help anyone beat the heat.

“We welcome everybody you know if someone needs to come in we don’t ask any questions. We just make sure that they are comfortable and ask them if they need water and if they look like they’ve been out in the sun, we just make sure to do our part in whatever way we can,” said Garcia.

Crossroads Mission welcomes anyone in the community and makes sure locals are well taken care of.

“They are more than willing to come in for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and cool off at that time as well or any other time during the day, you know we can give them time to come in and water and cool off,” said Director of Men’s shelter at Crossroads Mission Greg Culver.

Crossroads Mission shelter is always accepting donations for water.
