One injured in attempted homicide in Yuma
A shooting suspect has been at large, for almost 24 hours now. The Yuma Police Department is investigating an attempted homicide after someone opened fire, injuring a young man Sunday night around 7 o’clock.
YPD responded to a call about a shooting Sunday evening near West 19th Street on South Avenue A.
Officers found a 19-year-old man with a gunshot wound upon arrival at the scene.
"We received the 911 call referenced somebody being shot. Officers arrived on scene. Found a 19-year-old male with a gunshot wound who was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center. And is… stable condition," says Yuma Police Department Sergent Lori Franklin.
The caller is said to be a friend of the victim, however, it is unknown whether or not they were at the scene of the crime.
"There was multiple suspects in the area. But, we have no real suspect, good suspect information at this time and they all fled on foot," explains Sgt. Franklin.
YPD says it was reported that the suspects wore dark clothing, but the number of individuals involved has yet to be determined. A witness who asked not to be on camera said they saw the yellow caution tape and flashing police lights in an apartment complex driveway near a church in the immediate area. The police department has not ruled out drugs or gang activity as of yet.
The case is still under investigation.
