15th annual Body Walk health exhibit for kids
Open to the public until Friday at the Yuma Main Library
YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - Third graders from all around Yuma County are participating in a pretty unique health fair, the 15th Annual Body Walk.
This week, over 1,500 kids will be learning how healthy eating and staying physically active benefit their growing bodies.
This year the Yuma County Public Health Department partnered with Yuma County Library District.
It's sort of like a mini indoor maze reinforcing healthy habits and education in a fun format for kids.
Every station represents parts of the body.
Students learn and practice different concepts that help better their understand of their own health and bodies.
Suzanne cooper from the Yuma County Public Health Department said, “We certainly have some challenges here in Yuma County when it comes to obesity rates, food insecurity, people having access to healthy food. So learning about health, learning about ways to be healthy, and giving them an opportunity to come to events like this that is free of charge."
Students say they learned interesting things about their teeth, stomach, heart, and bones.
Some even say they are going to tell friends and family what they learned.
In 2019, the Body Walk received national recognition, winning a spotlight award nationwide coupled with a $10,000 dollar prize.
For the first time, the Body Walk is available to all of the public.
The exhibit is on display at the Yuma Main Library until Friday.
