Former Calexico High School student launches food business

IMPERIAL COUNTY, Calif. (KYMA) - A former Calexico High School student culinary student has launched a successful food businesses in El Centro.

Suzeth Solano's restaurant, "Melys," has been providing jobs for her fellow classmates, located at the Imperial County Mall.

Solano, 18, has stood out as a student in several competitions organized by her school.

For nearly a year, she has been in charge of managing and cooking at the restaurant while finishing her studies at Imperial Valley College.

"I remembered back when I had to hire people because we were getting more people. We needed more help. So I was like, 'Okay, my classmates, I think, they're really, really good and they're really talented. Why not give them a call?'" Solano shared. "So I give a call and thank God, you know, they were they were able to help me and they were like, 'Yeah, let's do it. I'll help you.' And I've been very grateful for them."

Solano plans to pursue a professional career in the culinary field and soon launch her own food truck.
