Brawley celebrates Christmas in July

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA) - If you happened to be driving through Brawley Wednesday, you might have noticed something a little out of the ordinary.

The Brawley Playhouse Theater hosted a "Christmas in July" event.

"It's Christmas in July everybody," organizer and film director Ryan Brandt said.

Despite the heat, residents were treated to some winter goodies outside the theater, which was decked out in holiday decorations, while Christmas music put evveryone in the holiday spirit.

"Just put a happy face on somebody's face. Make people feel happy. And also, we're promoting our new 'Nick' comic book," Brandt said.

He hopes the theater will be open by November of this year.

Although Brawley is a desert town, if snow were to fall here even for one day, what would it look like?

"I'm just trying to showcase some of or what we think a Christmas town would look like. If we think Brawley could look like this someday," Brandt said showing some of the decorations that depict small snow covered buildings.

Brawley resident Kimberly Pitera brought her dog by to check out the activities.

"It's cute. It's cute. It's good for the kids. I can't wait for the theater to open," she said.

The event runs through Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
