ICFD responds to commercial kitchen blaze

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA) - The Imperial County Fire Department (ICFD) responded to a structure fire Saturday in the City of Imperial.

The two-alarm fire was assisted by the El Centro Fire Department and Holtville Fire Department.

Crews worked to contain the flames and keep the fire from spreading to adjacent businesses and apartment buildings.

KYMA spoke to Battalion Chief Hector Garcia with ICFD, who said the building is used as a commercial kitchen, where food vendors prepare their food.

"We arrived on scene we had smoke showing from the eaves of the roof and along alongside the back of the property. It was a light smoke, however, it's getting pretty thick, so, we had the guys come in, secure the water source, and get ready for entry," Chief Garcia said.

The building was vacant at the time and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
