Imperial Valley students compete in welding contest

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The future of welding in the Imperial Valley was on display last week at Calexico High School, where students from across the region competed in the annual Welding Competition.

20 students from Calexico, Brawley, Calipatria, and Holtville High Schools showcased their welding skills during the competition, according to a press release.

Emil Soqui, a student from Brawley, won first place in the individual category while Calexico's Grill Fabrication Team won the top prize in the team category.

Welding instructors from around the valley emphasized how these programs provide students with real-world experience and valuable career skills.
