California Mid-Winter Fair to hold animal auctions

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - California Mid-Winter Fair is holding animal auctions this weekend "to highlight of the months of hard work local youths put in to raising their animals," according to a press release.

This comes after "two weekends of animal showmanship and confirmation competition" during the fair, the press release says.

The press release says the auctions will also show "how much the community supports the youths, as individuals, businesses and organizations come forward to purchase the animals."

The press release also mentions the difference between the California Mid-Winter Fair and other state fairs is "the ability of buyers to team up for group buys to support the youth."

"There are not a lot of fairs that do that...It's a super cool option that our fair pioneered," said Bo Shropshire, who served 32 years on the fair's Board of Directors and will serve as master ringman during the upcoming auctions.

The auctions will take place at the fair this Friday, at 5:30 p.m. in the beef arena, with feeder calves being auctioned off, and will continue this Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in the beef arena, with swine, small animals, goats, sheep and beef being auctioned off.

The fair is offering those who want to participate in the auction to go online "and register as a buyer to add funds to any youth's total," the press release says.
