New bail set for murder suspect
BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The court raised the bail amount for the man accused of murdering his girlfriend in El Centro last month.
19-year-old Anthony Hernandez made an appearance at the Brawley Superior Court to ask the judge to reconsider lowering the bail amount of $500,000.
However, Judge Monica Lepe-Negrete raised the amount to $1 million after the court considered the suspect has a prior criminal history involving firearms, ammunition, and aggressiveness.
In court, it was also revealed the suspect left the victim in a pool of blood while trying to hide the weapons.
Hernandez is accused of shooting his girlfriend, 18-year-old Emily Padilla with an AR-15 rifle.
He is facing a total of four felony counts, including murder and possession of an assault weapon.
He's being held at the Imperial County Jail and is scheduled to be back in court August 31.
