KYMA

BRAWLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A Salton City man charged with sexually assaulting at least two women was a no-show in court Tuesday morning.

32-year-old Philip Carter was supposed to appear in Brawley Superior Court but no reason was given as to why he wasn't present.

The Imperial County District Attorney's Office said Carter was stopped at a border checkpoint last Wednesday and was arrested by Imperial County deputies.

This after the alleged abuse took place in June.

The District Attorney's office could not provide any other details.

Carter is facing a total of six counts of criminal sexual assault.

“As mentioned before there are all serious and violent sexual offenses that he is being charged with including sodomy by force, rape by force, false imprisonment by violent, and also very various felony charges," stated Margaret Tafoya, Imperial County Senior Deputy Attorney.

Carter is currently being held at the Imperial County Jail and is scheduled to be back in court this Friday.

He's being held with no bail.
