Imperial Valley crosses its fingers on the lottery

KYMA

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Over in the Imperial Valley, residents are flocking to convenience stores to get in on the Mega Millions action.

Family vacations, a brand new home, and early retirement are just some of the few things valley residents hoping for in tonight’s lottery drawing; which now stands as the 2nd largest in Mega Millions history.

Imperial Valley locals are hoping to win big, with one local putting down $400 on the lottery.

“Somebody’s got to win," said Jose Duran, a retired electronic technician. "Numbers got to come up, so just trying my luck.”

And like locals in Yuma, those in the Imperial Valley are also hoping to have the winning ticket.

Some already have dreams of what they would spend the winnings on.

“You know a new Harley wouldn’t be bad,” said Imperial resident Edward Aranda.

In addition, convenience store employees have seen a rush of tickets sold on Friday.

“It's so much money," said Daniel Medina, an employee at Aten Express in Imperial. "I guess it's the dream of everybody, wanting to retire early.”

Aranda says there might be more than just luck on his side tonight.

“Hey well, it is Friday the 13th," said Aranda. "Strange things can happen.”

UPDATE:

The winning numbers from last night's drawing were 30-43-45-46-61, with a Mega Ball of 14.

One winning ticket was sold at a gas station in the town of Lebanon, Maine, according to the lottery.
