Imperial County assists migrants and asylum seekers
EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Office of Emergency Services and Department of Social Services assisted released migrants and asylum seekers.
In a press release, the release were a result of local shelters reaching its capacity earlier Friday, December 23.
Although the County is not responsible, they are working to provide humanitarian aid to the most vulnerable and meet the basic needs for those who have none.
Several partner agencies and nonprofits, like the Calexico Neighboring House, are also aiding the released migrants and asylum seekers.
Not only that, the Department of Social Services activated its mobile unit and staff to the City of Calexico.
This is to protect the health and safety of the County's residents and those within the lines.
Regardless of the holidays, the staff will continue communication with the Department of Homeland Security about any additional scheduled releases.
That and provide as much assistance as possible.
