Police say victim overdosed in his bathroom in Calexico. - News 11's Vanessa Gongora reports
CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - A 26 year old man was found dead by his mother on Saturday afternoon.
The victim's mother told Calexico Police that her son got home from his graveyard shift around 7 a.m., said goodnight to his family and that was the last time she saw her son alive.
The male was found in his bathroom later that afternoon in his home located on Camino Del Rio and Andrade Avenue.
Paramedics notified the Calexico Police Department upon arrival that there wasn't anymore cardiac activity.
Officer Anthony Herrera said based off his investigation, he believed the young man overdosed on fentanyl.
This came as a surprise to the family because the victim has no history or priors related to drug use.
"I located some burnt foil and a rolled up hundred dollar bill and some pills underneath the deceased, which is usually common for people that smoke or inhale fentanyl pills," said Officer Herrera.
The body was turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff's Office for a toxicology report and autopsy.
