Medical experts say masking is doing its thing - 13's Wiley Jawhary reports

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial County Public Health Department (ICPHD) says cases of
COVID-19 are slowly going down.

There are currently 3,210 active cases of COVID-19 across the Imperial Valley.

Medical experts say this is a good sign, but also say residents should not let their guards down just yet.

"Continue to take the precautions like wearing your mask indoors," Janette Angulo with the Imperial County Public Health Department said.

But City of El Centro Mayor Tomas Oliva says the mask mandate indoors is not being enforced by some businesses.

"Unfortunately I understand from a business standpoint, they are not trying to upset customers, but there have been times I went into stores where the mask was not required," he said.

Mayor Oliva told KYMA that Home Depot told him on a headquarter level, the policy does not require customers to wear a mask, only employees.

Home Depots website says employees will only offer a mask to customers who are not wearing it.

13 On Your Side's Wiley Jawhary will have more on that on the Evening Edition at 5 p.m. MST.
