Calexico councilmembers urge Board of Supervisors to reconsider mask mandates
Letter sent to Board of Supervisors
IMPERIAL VALLEY, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Calexico Councilmembers Gloria Romo and Raul Ureña recently walked out of a City Council meeting, then sent a letter to the Board of Supervisors regarding indoor mask mandates.
The Public Health Director recommended keeping the indoor mask mandate active until November, which council members voted against 3 to 2.
Romo and Ureña later demanded the Board of Supervisors to reconsider the mandate, but two of the members said the letter was too political and would be given proper discussion at another time.
"It is important that we remain vigilant and continue to take precautions. One simple way to do this is to reinstitute indoor face coverings for all persons in public," was written in the letter.
A letter to the Board was set to be an emergency item in an upcoming meeting but was blocked from discussion with no comment, causing Romo and Ureña to walk out.
"We need everybody to step up to the plate and take care of the community; both ends of the county need to be ... on high alert, because numbers have been steadily going up," quoted from Dr. Adolphe Edward, chief executive at ECRMC.
