NILAND, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Border Patrol agents arrested a woman suspected of smuggling meth packed inside a spare tire.

It happened Friday afternoon at the Highway 111 immigration checkpoint.

Agents say a 33-year-old woman driving a BMW sedan tried to cross the checkpoint, but a Border Patrol K-9 alerted agents to her vehicle.

At secondary inspection, agents say they searched the truck of her vehicle, where they found nine bundles of crystal meth inside.

The total weight was about 9.2 pounds, with an estimated value of $17,480, agents say.

The woman is a US citizen. Agents say she, the meth, and the BMW were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
