IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - El Centro Border Patrol (ELC) credits the new border wall to a decrease in total apprehensions.

Apprehensions dropped from 15,519 to 9,696 from the previous fiscal year-- a 36 percent decease.

In total, during fiscal year 2020 the ELC processed 617 unaccompanied undocumented children, 733 families, and 8,316 single adults.

The agency says each category has decreased substantially since the new border wall project and new policies have been implemented.

ELC also arrested 29 sex offenders, 6 gang members, and made three rescues.

ELC seized the following drugs during the 2020 fiscal year to date:

  • Cocaine: 28.68 lbs.
  • Marijuana: 20.79 lbs.
  • Meth: 749.21 lbs.
  • Heroin: 76.14 lbs.
  • Fentanyl: 16.47lbs.
