CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender Sunday night.

It happened just before 8:30 p.m when agents assigned to the El Centro Station encountered a suspicious individual.

The man was suspected of entering the U.S. illegally, about 22 miles west of Calexico.

Agents arrested the man and transported him to the El Centro station to investigate his immigration and criminal history.

It was discovered the man is Ricordo Pedrosa Martinez, a 54-year-old Mexican national, convicted in 1991 for Sexual Battery in Santa Ana, California.

He had been sentenced to 54 days in jail, and placed on 5 years probation for his crime.

Pedroza had also previously been deported from the U.S. in 2012.

He is currently held in federal custody awaiting further criminal prosecution.

El Centro Border Patrol says they have arrested and removed 21 people either convicted or wanted on sexual offense charges upon entering the U.S. illegally during fiscal year 2020.
