Woman Haven and Calipatria State Prison staff adopt 11 families for Christmas

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KSWT, KECY)- Earlier Thursday, 11 families received Christmas miracles.

For the last 20 years, Woman Haven has worked with local groups in the Imperial Valley to fulfill the wishlists of families who have been victims of domestic violence or are staying in their emergency shelters.

On Thursday, staff from the Calipatria State Prison joined Woman Haven in their cause to ensure that these families have something to celebrate this holiday season.

Gina Vargas, Woman Haven Executive Director said, "Just knowing that their hearts were feeling warm because they knew that so many individuals in the community came out to make a difference in the lives of their children. And what more does a mom want at that moment when she can't give.  Knowing that her kids were afforded a Christmas of gifts she could not afford."

By the end of the holiday season, over 150 will be adopted by Woman Haven.
