Rescues rise along Imperial County’s southern border

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - An emotional reunion after a mother and her two-year-old daughter found themselves separated at the U.S.-Mexico border near Calexico.
As mother made her way to the U.S. last Tuesday, Border Patrol agents say she was emotional and told them that her daughter was still in Mexico with several human smugglers.
Agt. Carlos Pitones says a mother crossed from mexico into the U.S. last Tuesday, but her daughter left behind with smugglers.
“She was stating that her child was still in the hands of the smuggler, they were holding the baby as she was climbing over the wall to illegally enter the united states,” Agt. Pitones said.
Thankfully, they were reunited five hours later.
A father and son were also rescued from the Jacumba area last week but were later sent back to Mexico.
According to Border Patrol, apprehensions continue to rise at El Centro Sector. There are approximately 140 a day. Most make it to the U.S., but some never reach their final destination.
With Border Patrol being the largest law enforcement agency in the Imperial Valley, they say their mission is to continue safeguarding the nations borders and nearby communities. Although the number of apprehensions have gone up, the number of individuals rescued and lives saved has also increased.
