Harvest Preparatory Academy students win Yuma County Science Fair

Harvest Preparatory Academy had two local students win a science fair by working to solve a major agriculture program.

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - Students at Harvest Prep in Yuma discovered they could help stop the spread of E. Coli in semi trucks with white noise.

After discovering what frequencies decrease the E coli., they decided to put it to the test by implementing this sound in the semi trucks, by using a smaller wooden semi truck. 

This is their second year working on the project.

Diana Nabarrao, a student who worked on the project shares why it's so important. 

"It's really exciting, and I'm really proud of it because you know that this project is not only helping me and my partners it’s also helping the community and my family," said Nabarro.

The students would go on to win the Yuma County Science Fair coming in first out of all the local schools.

The school won the Top High School Award, with Mercedes Castro and Carmen Martinez earning the top Overall Students Award.

Diane Ladino also worked on the project and describes what it means for her to be a woman in STEM.

"Being able to use my knowledge to progress, and show that women and STEM could get really far has been, I keep using amazing, because it really is," said Ladino.

These students will head to the International Science Fair  along with nine other Harvest Prep Students in the coming weeks.
