Sinaloa Cartel leaders charged with terrorism in connection to U.S. drug trafficking
SAN DIEGO (KYMA, KECY) - Alleged leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel have been charged with narco-terrorism, according to the United States Attorney's Office Southern District of Arizona.
Pedro Inzunza Noriega and his son were charged with the following:
- Narco-terrorism
- Drug trafficking
- Money laundering
They're key leaders of the Beltran Leyva Organization (BLO), a faction of the Sinaloa Cartel believed to be the world's largest known fentanyl producers.
Five other BLO leaders were arrested and charged alongside Noriega.
"The Sinaloa Cartel is a complex, dangerous terrorist organization and dismantling them demands a novel, powerful legal response," said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. "Their days of brutalizing the American people without consequence are over — we will seek life in prison for these terrorists."
The Attorney's Office says the indictments were a result of President Trump's executive order to designate the Sinaloa Cartel as a foreign terrorist organization.
