Two dead in murder-suicide in Yuma

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA) - The Yuma Police Department says two men are dead in a murder-suicide Saturday night.

According to a press release, it happened in the area of S. 13th Avenue and W. Third Street, near Sanguinetti Athletic Complex, at around 7:45 p.m.

Upon arrival, YPD says officers found a unresponsive man underneath a gazebo and performed life-saving measures.

YPD says 55-year-old Richard Carter shot the victim, 65-year-old Alvin Nelson, and drove away.

YPD also says they received an attempted suicide call in the area of S. Fifth Avenue and W. 18th Street before 8 p.m., which involved Carter.

Following these calls, YPD says both Nelson and Carter were taken to Onvida Health, where they both died.

The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information regarding the case, call YPD at 928-783-4421, or 78-CRIME at 928-782-7463 to remain anonymous.
