Armed man arrested outside the U.S. Capitol
WASHINGTON (NBC, KYMA) - A man armed with a shotgun was arrested outside the U.S. Capitol Tuesday.
U.S. Capitol Police say the suspect, who is 18-years-old, parked his vehicle near the west front of the Capitol building and exited with the firearm.
He was immediately ordered by officers to drop the gun, and after complying was taken into custody.
Capitol Police say the suspect, whom Chief Michael Sullivan said he doesn't not live in the D.C. area, had tactical gear and additional rounds in his vehicle.
"We know where the vehicle was registered to which was not to him...he had multiple addresses, so we're trying to chase down where he actually came from," Chief Sullivan shared.
No injuries were reported and Capitol Police later gave an all clear to the area. Members of Congress are on recess and were not in the building during the incident.
