Two MLB pitchers indicted in sports betting scheme
(CNN, KYMA) - Two pitchers with the Cleveland Guardians are in trouble with the law.
Investigators say Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz are facing charges in a betting scheme that involved Major League Baseball (MLB) games.
The MLB placed both players on leave this past season while authorities investigated the sports betting allegations.
Investigators allege Ortiz and Clase provided inside information to gamblers on the types and speed of pitches they would throw in a game.
Authorities arrested Ortiz Sunday in Boston, and he made his first court appearance on Monday. Ortiz lawyer denies his client did anything wrong.
However, prosecutors say Clase is not yet in custody, and there is no word yet from Clase's lawyer.
