Two arrested following ‘large-scale vehicle takeover’ in Boston

BOSTON (CBS, KYMA) - Two men were arrested following a "large-scale vehicle takeover" in the South End neighborhood of Boston during the early hours of Sunday.

According to the Boston Police Department, officers encountered a crowd of more than 100 people "who immediately began attacking marked Boston Police cruisers by throwing fireworks, cones, poles, and other objects."

"Several vehicles had also been used to block the intersection, preventing normal traffic flow," the police statement said. "One marked Boston Police cruiser sustained extensive damage after being repeatedly struck with fireworks, causing smoke and fire inside the vehicle."

Footage captured by Charlotte Aunger shows a marked police car engulfed in flames, causing an object inside of the vehicle to explode.

Julian Bowers, 18, and William Cantwell, 19, both from Rhode Island, were arrested during the incident, police said.

Footage captured by Gianna Tufano shows one of the men being detained by authorities.
