Suspect in Target parking lot shooting in Texas identified
UPDATE (2:16 PM): Officials in Austin, Texas held a press conference Tuesday afternoon to update the latest details.
They said the alleged suspect, 32-year-old Ethan Nieneker, claimed to be Jesus and has a history of mental health issues.
"This man had some serious issues, and I think about the systems that failed in a way as we move forward when looking at this background and again this is going to be things that are going to be coming up in the months and years ahead, there were some serious failures here," said Chief Lisa Davis with the Austin Police Department.
A motive for the shooting remains under investigation, but officials say it was a "deliberate act of violence" and the shooter chose his victims at "random."
"The actions of the suspect showed a complete disregard for human life and the pain caused will be felt by our community for years to come," Chief Davis expressed.
