One critically injured, three detained following shooting at a ‘No Kings’ protest in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (NBC, KYMA/KECY) - A protest in Downtown Salt Lake City turned violent Saturday night when gunfire erupted during a "No Kings" demonstration.

It happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. Mountain as about 10,000 people marched to protest recent federal policy decisions.

According to traffic camera video, there are people running for cover as they heard the gunfire.

Police say one person suffered life-threatening injuries.

Three people are in custody, including one with a gunshot wound.

Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd says it's unclear if the shooting was tied to politics or had anything to do with the event.

Chief Redd also says many in the area helped officers track down the suspected shooter.
