Colorado woman killed in grocery store parking lot

MONUMENT, Colo. (CBS, KYMA/KECY) - Monument Police and El Paso County Deputies responded to a reported shooting in a King Soopers parking lot off of Baptist Road on Friday.

Law enforcement arrived at the scene around 12:20 p.m. after a caller reported the shooting.

"According to the caller, a male walked up to a vehicle in the parking lot and opened fire on the vehicle," an El Paso County Deputy on scene said.

Deputies said they found one woman dead inside of her vehicle at the scene. They said they believed the woman was the only person inside the car at the time of the shooting.

Deputies did not say if a suspect was in custody at this time, but they believe this was an isolated incident.

Media on the scene says part of the parking lot is blocked off, but shoppers are still going in and out of the store. Deputies said they plan to be on the scene for several hours to investigate.

Deputies said this is an ongoing investigation and urged anyone with information regarding the incident to call (719) 390-5555.
