Man sentenced to three years in prison for aggravated assault

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A Yuma man is sentenced to three years behind bars for aggravated assault and misconduct involving a weapon.

41-year-old Gregory Mendivil Jr. pleaded to the two felonies.

The charges stem from court documents that describe Mendivil shooting and injuring a victim back in August of 2024. After the shooting, officers conducted a search warrant and found him inside his home with a stolen sawed off shotgun.

Mendivil was sentenced to three years in prison including credit for time already served.

"205 days credit for time served. The court is also ordering that any weapon be forfeited," said Judge Pro Tem Claudia Gonzalez.

Mendivil will also have a 36-month supervised probation term following his release from prison.
