More than 10 killed in 1 week in San Luis, Mexico
SAN LUIS, Mexico (KYMA, KECY) - A new wave of violence in San Luis, Mexico, with more than 10 people killed in one week.
Last weekend, seven people were killed in different areas of the city, but on Wednesday night, another five people were killed and five more were injured.
One of the homicides happened in the parking lot of a pizza store located on the corner of Obregón Avenue and 15th Street, leaving one person dead and one injured.
"The problem we have is the fight between two cartels and we all know it, the least I would like to see happen is to see innocent people get killed," said Mayor of San Luis, Mexico Santos Gonzalez
The most recent homicide happened Thursday at Tlaxcala alley and 3rd street, where a 50-year-old man was killed.
San Luis City Mayor Santos González says there were also more than 20 homicides in the first three weeks of June.
"21 deaths until the month of June, we are up from the 17 we had in the same month last year," said Mayor Gonzalez.
According to Sonora's public security website, before this week, there were 143 homicides so far this year.
A resident doesn't think this wave of violence shows any signs of stopping.
"That will never end. There is no way to end the violence and it will be like this throughout the country of Mexico," said San Luis resident Leo Sauceda.
The mayor of San Luis RÃo Colorado says that a drug cartel left a message at one of the crime scenes…, saying that San Luis and the valley are safe and demanding that Mexican marines stop combating the cartels.
