Leudi Jesus Garcia-Jauregui of Mexico was sentenced last week and pleaded guilty on March 16, 2023

TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - A 25-year-old man was sentenced to 47 months in prison, along with three years of supervised release for Assault on a Federal Officer with Physical Contact and Attempted Reentry of a Removed Alien.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Leudi Jesus Garcia-Jauregui admitted he had violated the terms and conditions of his supervised release after previously serving a 24-month sentence for Attempted Reentry of a Removed Alien and Importing a Stolen Vehicle.

On November 12, 2022, two days after Garcia-Jauregui was released from federal prison and deported from the U.S., he attempted to reenter the U.S.

The 25-year-old man was seen running northbound in the southbound vehicle lanes at the DeConcini Port of Entry, in Nogales, Arizona

The U.S. Attorney's Office said he disregarded U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers' commands to stop before being tackled to the ground.

Garcia-Jauregui attempted to break free multiple times, attempted to bite two officers and was finally arrested.

He also became combative again while in custody and punched an officer twice in the shoulder and chest.
