Man sentenced to 30 months in prison for assaulting federal officers

TUCSON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) – A 26-year-old man was sentenced to 30 months in prison, along with three years of supervised release, for Assault on a Federal Officer with a Deadly or Dangerous Weapon and Assault on a Federal Officer Resulting in Bodily Injury.

U.S. Border Patrol agents learned several groups of non-citizens were passing through the Baboquivari Mountain range near the area of Newfield, Arizona on May 31, 2022.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, when agents located the group, Acatzihua-Temoxtle fled up the side of a wash and kicked several large boulders towards one of the agents to slow him down.

When agents arrested the 26-year-old man, he physically assaulted one agent by using the agent's flashlight.

He also attempted to strangle another agent with his lanyard used to hold night vision goggles.
