Murder preliminary hearing reveals more information

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - It's the third day of the preliminary hearing for a man accused of murdering his ex-wife near Calexico in 2021.

Some of the details mentioned in the hearing are disturbing, please read the rest of the article with discretion.

On Friday morning, the focus was on the victim, Rose Jamie Campos' alleged diary, the cause of her death, and the suspect's whereabouts after the murder.

"The prosecution is conducting direct examination, the lead investigator which is Manuel Cacatian. We are coming back this afternoon continuing his direct examination, then I am hoping to have the opportunity to do my cross-examination," stated Criminal Defense Attorney Armando Galvan.

The autopsy of the victim, 43-year-old Rose Jamie Campos was revealed by the lead investigator.

She appeared to have deep cuts and bruises to the head and brain, and a collapsed skull. This is a result of blunt force trauma after being struck repeatedly with a hatchet-like item.

The lead investigator said he found Rose's car the following day in Calexico and said he called the suspect, Antonio Campos, to arrange a place where they could talk.

The lead investigator said when he met Antonio, he had bruising and a fresh cut on his hands.

The victim's diary was read on the stand by the district attorney investigator.

In the diary, Rose Campos wrote about the abuse inflicted by the suspect, 41-year-old Antonio Campos.

She described physical, psychological, and sexual abuse.

Rose wrote that Antonio Campos allegedly demanded sexual intercourse.

In one passage, she wrote that she informed him that she was menstruating with heavy cramping. Rose then alleges that she was raped and sodomized.

The criminal defense argued that essentially there is not enough evidence to show that Rose was the author of the diary.

"How do we know that on July 13, 2018, she was actually raped. This is very conclusionary your honor. This is a term your honor that we have to explore more of," stated Criminal Defense Attorney Armando Galvan.

The judge decided the information regarding the diary is admissible.
