Armed robbery suspect arrested

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Calexico Police Department arrested a 33-year-old suspect accused of trying to rob a 7-11 store at gunpoint.

Police said Carlos Alberto Ramos from Calexico entered the 7-11 located on 9th Street and Imperial Ave on Wednesday, June 7 wearing a ski mask, latex gloves and carrying a duffel bag.

When officers arrived they saw a sawed-off shotgun sticking out of Ramos' bag.

"The firearm's serial number was removed so this real was a shotgun weapon that was modified. Because the serial number was removed, we can’t trace the gun,” said Cpl. Miguel Carbajal from the Calexico Police Department.

Ramos is a convicted felon and is prohibited from carrying weapons.

He's currently being held at the Imperial County Jail.

And facing charges of possession of a firearm as a felon and attempted robbery.
