Calexico robber on the loose

Suspect has robbed two gas stations in the month of July and are asking for the public's help

CALEXICO, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - On Saturday, July 16, an armed robbery occurred at the CB Stop gas station located on Cole Blvd.

The Calexico Police Department says the robbery occurred in the morning a little after midnight.

Sergeant Sean Acuña says the armed suspect held two clerks at gun point as he stole money from the cash register. The suspect was yelling aggressively and demanding more money, waving his handgun at the clerks. The male clerk then tossed over his wallet.

According to Sgt. Acuña, it is unknown how much money the suspect stole.

"After this occurred, the suspect fled outside the store. Believe he went southbound on Bowker Rd," says Sgt. Acuña.

The Calexico Police Department believe this is the second robbery the suspect has engaged in.

"On July 9th, we had a similar robbery and based on the video footage we believe it to be the same suspect," Sgt. Acuña says. "The same suspect entered that location, produced a gun, pointed it at the clerk, demanded money, the clerk handed him a money bag. The suspect fled outside of Chevron southbound on Klove Ave. where he apparently dropped the money bag."

Acuña says the money was recovered from that incident and may possibly be able to attain some DNA.

The general description of the suspect is a hispanic male, between 5'10-5'11 in height, thin to medium build, last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, a white face mask, black jeans and white Nike high-top shoes.

Sgt. Acuña says if you do recognize this man, do not contact or approach him because he is considered armed and dangerous, but do call 911 and keep him under surveillance.

The Calexico Police Department is asking if anyone has any information on the suspect or who it may be to please contact Detective Sgt. Manual Ceja at 760-768-2140.
