SL Vice Mayor’s vehicle involved in a hit and run

Vehicle registered to Africa Luna Carrasco collides with another vehicle before the unknown driver responsible flees the scene

San Luis, Ariz. ( KYMA, KECY) - A hit-and-run collision Sunday evening ended with an unknown driver fleeing the scene of the crash. The incident happened around 8:18 p.m. on County 19 Street, near Avenue C.

Yuma County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) confirmed the vehicle causing the accident, a 2012 white Honda Accord, belongs to Africa Luna Carrasco.

YCSO says the other vehicle is a 2011 black GMC Sierra and had three passengers at the time of the incident. They further explain that the white Honda was traveling westbound on County 19 Street while the Black GMC was traveling eastbound when the front driver side of the Honda hit the rear driver side of the GMC causing tire and axle damage to both vehicles in the respective areas.

The Honda was abandoned at the scene, prompting YCSO to contact the San Luis Police Department (SLPD) to check on the registered owner. According to SLPD, when officers arrived at the vehicle owner's home, Carrasco reportedly told them that she didn't know where her vehicle was and proceeded to file a vehicle theft report at approximately 10:30 p.m. the same evening.

KYMA has reached out to Carrasco but has yet to receive a response.

No injuries have been reported. The case is still under investigation, as officers continue looking for the driver who fled the scene. Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to contact the Sheriff's Office.
