Health officials confirm nearly 200 more coronavirus cases

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - The surge in coronavirus cases continued in Yuma County Thursday with the confirmation of nearly 200 new cases.

The Yuma County Health District (YCHD) also reported three additional deaths from the illness.

Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) also reports a 16-patient increase in in its COVID-19 ward. However, the hospital also tells us it's discharged ten more people.

This is the tenth day since the start of June that Yuma's seen an increase of 100 cases or more. Once again cases involving patients between the ages of 20 and 45 saw the most growth.

Arizona currently has more than 30,000 cases of coronavirus. The illness is blamed for more than a 1,100 deaths across the state including 42 in Yuma County.
