16,000 pounds of meat available for pickup in Yuma County

YUMA, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY)– Unitechz Communications, a local telecommunications company in Yuma makes a donation of 16,000 pounds of meat to the community.

The purchase was in support of the Yuma County FFA and 4-H programs and comes from livestock raised by children and teens in the local program.

The President of Unitechz Communications, Stuart Rodriguez, purchased 60 pigs and 20 lambs in support of the local 4-H students as the live auction was forced to be an online barn sale due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rodriguez was part of hundreds of other donors who participated with the Yuma County Fair Livestock Committee to ensure the hardworking FFA and 4-H students received funding for their efforts in raising their animals for the traditional Yuma County Fair.

Unitechz will host drive-thru picks up in Yuma, Wellton, Somerton and San Luis aimed to feed thousands.

The pork will be packaged into 4 to 5 pound roasts and into two-pound servings of ground pork. The company will also be delivering part of the large donation to local non-profits.

To help meet this crisis, Rodriguez is making the donation in hunger-relief support by deploying truckloads of protein starting April 24th through May 8th, 2020.

The local mayors of each community helped to coordinate the distribution to the people in the area.

Non-profits agencies Catholic Community Services, Crossroads Mission, Yuma Community Food Bank and Amberley’s Place will receive parts of the donation..

All locations will have a drive-thru set up so that people can remain in their vehicles as they pick up the donated food. There are no appointments; however the produce will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Schedule for pick-ups:

April 24th: Residents in San Luis can pick up at the Senior Center parking lot between the hours of  10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m..
