Pfizer announces vaccine is safe and effective for kids 5 to 11

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KYMA, KECY/ CNN) - Pfizer has announced Monday morning that it's COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective for children ages 5 to 11.

Pfizer says its latest trial of the coronavirus vaccine for children showed it is safe and generated a "robust" antibody response.

The data collected by the drug maker, along with its German partner BioNtech, shows children developed coronavirus-fighting antibodies on a level equal to teenagers and young adults after a two-shot regimen.

Pfizer now plans to use this data to seek approval from U.S. regulators to begin offering vaccinations to children in that age group.

The drug maker says it is also awaiting results from a study looking at vaccine effectiveness on children as young as six-months-old. The results are those studies are expected later this year.
