A vaccine and a food sample at Somerton’s Vaccine Block Party
CBS 13's April Hettinger lays out the event and how to register
SOMERTON, Ariz. (KYMA, KECY) - If you still need a first or second dose of the coronavirus vaccine, this Friday will give Somerton residents the chance.
The City of Somerton is hosting a Vaccine Block Party this Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. with food and entertainment starting at 5 p.m.
The food samples from a variety of local Somerton restaurants will be available from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. along with live music from the band Van Cordova.
One of the Somerton restaurants participating, 85350 Pizzeria and Bar, will be serving pizza as a way to encourage the public to get the vaccine.
"Them seeing that everyone's starting to go out that they'll be like, 'Oh, maybe I'll get it so I can be like them,'" said Norma Veras, bar manager of the restaurant.
Brissa Garcia, special events coordinator with the City of Somerton says this will encourage residents to register for the event and benefit the local restaurants.
"We're trying to bring more revenue to our local businesses and just help them out because this year was very tough for all our businesses in Yuma County," Garcia said.
Registration for a vaccine can be done in person at the City on Wednesday, May 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Garcia lists some of the other participating restaurants.
"Businesses like Crazy Tamal, 85350, Pizzeria Bar and Grill, we have Tacos El Cachanilla, we have Where's My Boba," Garcia stated.
